Charter Subsidiary Boardwalk Communications Wins Award of Excellence at Cisco Summit

VICTORIA, BC–(Marketwired – November 13, 2016) – Boardwalk Communications (Boardwalk), a recent acquisition of Charter Telecom Inc. (Charter), both Victoria-based information technology (IT) leaders, has received the 2016 Architectural Excellence, Enterprise Networking award for Canada from Cisco Systems, Inc., the world’s largest networking company.

Boardwalk’s Vice President of Sales, Philip Stone, accepted the award at the Cisco Partner Summit on November 1, 2016 in San Francisco, California.

In granting the award, Cisco singled out Boardwalk’s dedication to the Cisco partnership that has resulted in tremendous growth, year after year:

“Selling to all segments with an increasing focus on healthcare-specific solutions, Boardwalk grew their Enterprise Network business over 100% in fiscal year 2016 (FY 16) — earning them the award for Architectural Excellence — a first for Boardwalk.”

It’s this kind of performance that drew the attention of Charter, which is also having an award-winning year — Charter was recognized as one of North America’s “20 Most Promising IT Infrastructure Solution Providers” for 2016 by U.S.-based CIOReview magazine.

Discussions between the two companies led to the acquisition of Boardwalk by Charter; the purchase was announced on April 4, 2016.

At the time, Charter president Kelly Michell called it “a coming together of highly-recognized, industry-respected, like-minded organizations with well-aligned values and operating principles.”

The deal allows for the creation of a national network technology leader that will offer a full spectrum of products and services to customers across Canada. The combined company will add Cisco solutions along with product offerings from current partners: Juniper Networks and Avaya.

Said Charter’s Michell: “Together, Charter and Boardwalk are exponentially more capable of providing clients with powerful IT solutions to their business problems. We now have the capacity of the bigger IT companies in the field without losing focus on the impeccable customer service and understanding of business needs that has brought us both to this point.”
